We have a tradition that we started when we moved up to Alaska a few years ago - we make our own Christmas cards. Yes, I know, rather campy and cheesy, but we have fun doing it and it lets our families know what we’re up to. Each year we figure out what we want on our cards and design them. Our first year we had a photo of our house under the Aurora on the front of the card and made up a map of Alaska pinpointing our location in the Interior so everyone could find us. Last year we put on Santa hats and took pictures at the Arctic Circle sign during our short expedition up the Dalton Highway (also known as the “Haul Road” or “Ice Road” of Ice Road Truckers fame). This year we’ve decided to take our photo (with Santa hats, of course) with Troopy out in front of the shop. We figure its appropriate to include a new member of the family in the card as one would do with a new baby, and so it is with our Troopy. Actually, I think a new baby would probably be cheaper than restoring an old Land Cruiser!
We also thought it would be appropriate to post our Christmas card picture on our Travels with Troopy site to help celebrate the holidays with everyone who reads it. I haven’t quite decided on which page to put it on yet - probably the Welcome page. Keep checking back - it should be up by this afternoon if all goes OK. The weather up here is a little cloudy today with some flurries, but should be OK for our pics. We’ll keep you posted!
Update: 10 am - Its now snowing like hell - we might try to do the Xmas pic tomorrow. Such is life in interior Alaska...
Cheers from the Arctic!
